iOS 6 Maps Rock?

So apparently some of you out there are hearing that the maps application for iOS 6 is garbage. That sentiment may not be entirely true. Perhaps if you were to use your phone in a remote location like Boston, sure.

Joking aside, the biggest improvement to me in iOS 6 is the maps application. I have used it repeatedly without experiencing problems. I can see the frustration of some users having performance issues, but who hasn't had performance issues. Let's be realistic for a second - Maps is still in countless ways an improvement over what we had. The original maps application fed by google was poor, still often unreliable, and the biggest issue was a lack of turn by turn directions.

Before iOS 6 I used an application called navigon, which was a Garmin company, and I assumed they had plenty of experience in the navigaton arena. To be honest the app was decent, but being spoiled with very well thought out UI elsewehere in iOS, Navigon left something to be desired. I love all the improvements of the new Maps app, not to mention being able to gain some major space on my phone.

The above said, it's a new apple and updates are being pushed hard. Maps might not be perfect, but it offers loads of advantages. I don't believe Tim had any reason to say he's sorry. In hindsight, maybe Apple should have kept google maps and called the new Maps a beta.

To me the phone is my digital swiss army knife and Siri controlled new Maps are just one of the way it helps me be MacGyver'n myself out of life's many challenges. That being said Siri still needs more work
