As Will Kelley reported here on Mac Weekend on Tuesday Microsoft Surface tablet has pre-order now available. While the Microsoft site says it will ship within three weeks there is a lot of discussion that Microsoft is going to actually debut this tablet on November 2nd.
Geeky Gadgets has news from a reliable source that November 2nd will be the debut date for the iPad mini. This move is going to completely steal the thunder from Microsoft's release.
As Will talked about the Surface looks cool, and it is awesome to have some competition to drive innovation. However, these release dates lining up will undoubtedly cause issues for Microsoft.
It's no secret that they have had a lot of trouble getting people excited about Win8 on the phones. They have not, in any sense, been a credible market threat. With them finally releasing something that may garner some interest it is unfortunate for Microsoft the date is going to be the same as the iPad mini.
The Surface debut is going to be one of the biggest debuts for Microsoft in a long time, but it won't even be the biggest debut of the day. Be sure to mark your calendars for November 2nd, it's going to be a very exciting day.
I do not understand why companies keep doing this. Google, Samsung, Motorola and now Microsoft have released or announced new products near the same time Apple releases or announces something new. Apple portrays showmanship in it's grandest form and the releases are geared towards a rabid fan-base. This is a tough space to compete in.
ReplyDeleteIt's most interesting because Apple and Microsoft have been really cordial lately. The two companies sure don't have the venom to each other that they used to. Kinda strange that either side would let this happen. I mean.. I suppose it could be completely coincidental.. but that sure seems awfully unlikely.
ReplyDeleteProbably a mistake by Microsoft.. but strange there wasn't some prevention for this in place between the companies.
