Microsoft Surface goes up for pre-order
I'm a geek. A title I wear proudly. Because of this, I am very much interested in geek culture which includes gadgets. You can now preorder the Microsoft Surface with Windows RT on their website. You can pick one up for as low as $499 without the touch cover. This excites me. Not because I want a Microsoft Surface. I do write for a Mac blog after all. The reason this excites me and should excite you, is because competition is good. Competition is good for the consumer. It drives down prices, and drives up innovation. Microsoft is bringing something new to the table of tablets. Many have tried in the past and most have failed, but Microsoft is doing something similar to Apple, they are making a push to change the way we use computers. This is the "post PC" revolution. Both Microsoft and Apple and making strides to unify their desktop experience to mimic and function through touch interfaces. An effective touch interface comes baked into Windows 8, and Microsoft is putting their weight behind tablets and touch computing, by releasing several tablets. Check out the new Ad for the Microsoft Surface above. As a film geek I think it is very well done. At least they aren't telling us how stupid we are for wanting an iPad.
I'm excited to see what the Surface does to the market and so should you. The real question is "who is going to give us our Minority Report computer first, Microsoft of Apple?" Oh and the Kinect doesn't count!

I agree with this a lot. One of the biggest threats to innovation is a lack of competition. Other great products in the field will continue to force Apple (as well as all companies) to continue to try to innovate.
